The Pennsylvania Housing Research Center shared the following information Build Science curriculum with PBA. This is a free resource for all members – as well as a great tool for CTCs and those interested in a career in the home building industry.

The details…

The Build Show is synonymous with better building through building science principles. The free Build Science™ curriculum, hosted by master builder Matt Risinger and architect Steve Baczek, takes participants through tiered training installments that build on concepts and applications from each previous course.

The Build Science™ series covers how building science principles shape design and construction; how to identify risks within critical control layers; how to integrate best practices for continuity system-to-system; and evaluation for long-term performance and durability with a forensic mindset of whole house design construction. This multi-part Build Science™ video series helps develop those new to the industry with foundational knowledge that will set the tone of their better building career, as well as sharpen the knowledge and skills of seasoned practitioners.

From Build Science 101, participants gain foundational understanding of the principles and purpose of building science to drive long-term durability, health, comfort, and energy efficiency in our buildings. Matt and Steve will analyze the why, what, where, and how of building science and control layer management. This series is the perfect entry point for those starting their “Know Better, Build Better™” journey or for the seasoned crowd refreshing their background on cornerstone building science concepts. Building Science™ is in everything we do—understanding it is a requirement for our success and the buildings we construct.

Build Science 201 asks, “Do you know risk when you see it?” 201 is a step towards applying successful control layer management principles impacting design, construction, and sequence decisions. This video training series unpacks 12 primary concerns to look out for when considering how to effectively manage water, air, thermal, and vapor in the building enclosure. Applying the vision of knowing it when you see it, Matt and Steve walk through numerous job site photos to discuss real-life scenarios in depth and correlate each to fundamental Building Science™ principles to ensure proper mitigation of risk.

Follow along with Matt and Steve through Build Science™ 101 and 201 with 301 through 601 forthcoming. Take the accompanying quizzes and get your Build Science Certificates of Completion.
