The West Side Career and Technical School in Kingston, Pennsylvania, has officially been approved as a new partner school in the Pennsylvania Builders Association (PBA) Endorsed Trade Program, marking an important step in strengthening the connection between career and technical education and the residential construction industry.

Under the leadership of Director Richard Rava, and with strong support from Electrical Instructor Robert Hassaj, the school recently hosted an initial on-site evaluation conducted by members of the Home Builders Association of Northeast Pennsylvania. During the visit, three programs were evaluated for potential endorsement: Electrical, HVAC, and Carpentry.

The effort to pursue endorsement was largely driven by Hassaj, who brings 41 years of combined industry and 23 years of teaching experience, including three years at West Side Career and Technical School. His electrical program has built a strong reputation for quality training and strong engagement with industry professionals. Hassaj places great value on these partnerships, recognizing the important role they play in helping students develop the skills and connections needed for success in the trades.

Despite challenges such as budget reductions and recent teacher retirements, Director Rava continues to emphasize the importance of collaboration with industry partners such as PBA and the local builders association of the Home Builders Association of NEPA.  By supporting programs like the PBA Endorsed Trade Program, the school is ensuring that students have access to relevant training, industry insight, and meaningful career pathways.

The endorsement process highlights the strong work already being done at West Side Career and Technical School and reinforces its commitment to preparing the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
