Back in 1964 when the York Builders Association began, little did the founders know that the association would grow to be one the largest in Pennsylvania and be one of the leaders in developing the workforce of tomorrow.

The YBA is more than 400 members strong and is guided by a dedicated President, Nicholas Sabold of Sabold Construction, as well as vital team of senior officers and directors. Organizing it all is Executive Vice President Laurie Lourie aided by Melissa Longenberger (Director of Membership and WorkforceNOW™), Melissa Fritchey (Director of Marketing and Events), and Haley Miller (Events Coordinator).

The York Builders Association is very committed to addressing the local workforce gap in the building industry. They have championed YBA members, designed programs and built initiatives to highlight the career opportunities, connecting members, schools, students, and parents, and bringing together the community through partnerships.

The WorkforceNOW® brand serves as the umbrella which covers all the YBA’s programs. Initiatives offer opportunities for members to support and get involved with programs at various levels that are geared toward education, becoming a resource and growing the workforce.

Construction Career Days provide high school students with the resources they need to learn more about local opportunities while connecting them to employers.

YBA members also produced a series of award-winning awareness videos that highlight the value of a trade education as well as personal experiences from students. The videos can be seen on the YBA YouTube channel located at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDDkZIV9V-MYebzDeTxevh0cILV97-j_5.

Members gather for a number of events during the year including the annual Home and Garden Show, a sporting clay shoot, golf outing, membership breakfasts, and a speed networking event. In addition, the Parade of Homes and Chefs of Parade is held each year.

The PEAK Achievement Awards are held annually to showcase the best home and business projects in York County. Entries are judged by a panel of industry experts as well as the public.

Events are not the only times that members come together. A recent community venture was building a sensory room at the Children’s Home of York. The project benefited children who had traumatic experiences. YBA members also hold an annual holiday gift drive for the facility as well.

Members have also installed gates in the alleys throughout the City of York to help reduce crime and worked on a special project at Leg Up Farms, a therapy center in York County for children with special needs. On top of that, they have held a fundraising event for rescue dogs.

That commitment doesn’t end with the community-at-large, the York Builders Association is also dedicated to providing outstanding benefits for their members. The professional, knowledgeable staff is always on hand to assist members. One of the most innovative services available is developing customizable digital marketing packages to help members grow their businesses.

All of this devotion and hard work has been recognized with a variety of awards including a nod as an NAHB Membership Cup Finalist as well as the recipient of the PBA Media Project of the Year for WorkforceNOW™ and the GA PAC award for reaching the PAC goal.

With investments in members and the community, the York Builders Association has definitely served the residential construction industry excellently for nearly 60 years now and we thank them for all the hard work!
